What Happens During an Eye Exam?

You'll never feel rushed or overlooked when you visit us for an eye exam. Dr. Gregory Kloesel takes the time to get to know you, understand your lifestyle, and check in on how your vision has changed. Your exam includes:

  • A full review of your vision and eye health
  • A discussion of any changes you’ve noticed
  • Testing for glasses or contact lens prescriptions
  • Screening for common conditions like dry eye, glaucoma, or diabetic eye disease

We believe in clear communication and gentle care. If something needs more attention, we’ll walk you through it in simple terms and make sure you’re never left with questions.

Eye Exam Frequency

For most adults and kids, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam once a year. Annual exams help us track changes in your vision, catch early signs of eye conditions, and keep your prescription current.

Certain patients may need more frequent visits, especially those with diabetes, glaucoma, or other eye health concerns. If you’re not sure how often you should come in, just ask. We’ll help you figure out a schedule that makes sense for you.

Pediatric Eye Exams (Ages 5+)

Children’s eyes change quickly, especially in today’s screen-heavy world. We offer kid-friendly eye exams to catch problems early, like nearsightedness, lazy eye, or eye strain. We see kids starting at age five and work hard to make every visit comfortable, calm, and even a little fun.

A quick visit could make a difference if your child has been squinting, struggling in school, or complaining about headaches.

Senior Eye Exams

As we age, so do our eyes, and staying on top of those changes helps protect your long-term vision. For our older patients, we look for signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and other age-related eye conditions.

We also ensure your glasses or contact lenses prescription is current so you can keep doing what you love—reading, driving, or spending time with grandkids.

Diabetic Eye Exams

If you have diabetes, keeping a close eye on your vision is just as important as managing your blood sugar. A diabetic eye exam helps us monitor for early signs of conditions like diabetic retinopathy, which can develop without any noticeable symptoms at first.

Dr. Kloesel uses advanced imaging and detailed testing to catch even the smallest changes so we can protect your sight before problems start.

Contact Lens Exams

If you wear contacts (or are thinking about trying them), you’ll need a slightly different exam than you would for glasses. A contact lens exam includes extra measurements to ensure a proper fit and comfort, plus time to discuss lens types.

We also offer specialty lenses like gas-permeable and scleral lenses for patients with dry eye, astigmatism, or hard-to-fit eyes. Not sure what’s right for you? We’ll walk you through the options. No pressure, just honest advice.

Let’s Keep Your Eyes Healthy
